TASTING NOTES
This 2018 Napa Gamay has a bright fresh fruit medley with notes of rich red cherry. There are delicate touches of vanilla from the French oak aging.
BACKGROUND
Valdiguié has a deep history in the Napa Valley. Previously known as Napa Gamay, and still referred to affectionately that way on the ranch, it is known for producing light and fruity wines that have low tannins. Typically produced as a red or rosé style of wine, these vines have been growing on the property since the 1930s.
WINEMAKING
Hand-picked and hand-sorted at crusher. Allowed to cold soak for 48 hours prior to yeast inoculation. Fermentation was allowed to warm gently not exceeding 78 degrees to retain the varietal characters of Valdiguié. Gentle pump-overs daily. Gently pressed off at dryness and move to all French oak to undergo malolactic fermentation. 50% new oak in year one then moved to neutral oak for the remainder of aging. Total time in barrel 14 months
