Even from the first sniffs and sips, the Crescere Cabernet Sauvignon is an unapologetically robust wine, a pleasant surprise coming from Alexander Valley, California.
The nose has a few of the classic aromas of cherry, worn leather, and bell pepper. Still, it opens up to dried plums, fig, mocha, Saigon cinnamon, and confectionery sweets notes (think tootsie rolls). This wine is labeled a Cabernet Sauvignon, but a substantially large amount of Petit Verdot (12%) assists the Cabernet to pack a punch aromatically, structurally, and savory notes throughout each sip. The attention to detail in making sure this wine is robust with refinement early on in its drinking window accounts for the twenty-two months in 80% new French oak barrels. This wine speaks to those wine fans who want a rockstar wine to show off at your next dinner party and those who have the patience to see how this wine evolves with a bit of rest. This review is one of those reviews where I tell you to grab a bottle before they are all gone; only 125 cases of the 2018 vintage exist.
